The PAUL TERGAT FOUNDATION (PTF) is an international NGO registered and incorporated in Kenya under the Non Governmental Organizations Coordinator (NGO) Act, Cap 490 of the Laws of Kenya.
The Foundation is the initiative of Paul Tergat, the World Marathon record holder and five-time World Cross Country champion, an internationally renowned athlete and philanthropist.

The Foundation has been conceived on the strong conviction that Kenya and indeed the whole of Africa are alive with enormous potential in terms of natural and human resource that remains largely untapped. Whereas in the well-to-do urban areas people have opportunities to actualize themselves in some ways, such opportunities are not readily available in rural areas and in the urban slums.

Occasionally, a few individuals like Paul Tergat get a breakthrough that sets them on the path to success and better living. This is extremely rare and, therefore, indicates that the potential that, if identified early, could transform the rural communities and urban poor into vibrant and thriving centres of development, remains untapped.

The Foundation has been established thus to tap, nurture and develop that great potential which exists in rural communities in Africa. The aim is to improve their quality of life by equipping them to develop their talents, to improve their livelihoods and their health. Access to information can help communities to identify and solve their own developmental problems. The Foundation seeks to work strategically at rural community levels by exploring ways to address pressing social problems in a participatory way.

The main objective of the organization, incorporated pursuant to the provisions of the Non-Government Organization’s Co-ordination Act, 1990 and the Non-Governmental Organizations’ Regulations, 1992, Laws of Kenya, is to promote the well-being of mankind, particularly disadvantaged and marginalized persons and groups of persons by providing and facilitating capacity building programmes and access to food, education, health and other basic human needs.
